The 1958 Lord & Taylor building at 750 White Plains Road, on the Eastchester and Scarsdale border, now houses a 70,000-square-foot medical hub and an outpatient rehabilitation clinic. It became a medical address first, and its shopping is coming back slowly.
Westfair's report on the spring sale lists White Plains Hospital, Burke Rehabilitation, Equinox, CAVA, Tatte Bakery, Pottery Barn Kids and Williams Sonoma together as tenants. Those tenants arrived on different schedules, and the town's own filings show where each one stands.
Burke Rehabilitation opened first. Its Scarsdale outpatient clinic at 750 White Plains Road opened on April 14, 2025. It offers physical, occupational and speech therapy, plus vestibular and concussion therapy, and it opened with weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to Burke's announcement.
White Plains Hospital Physician Associates came next. It opened in phases starting in July 2025, Westfair reported, with the full center expected to be running by October. The formal ribbon cutting for the 70,000-square-foot practice was October 16, 2025. The hospital's announcement lists cardiology, OB/GYN, orthopedics, pediatrics, internal medicine and imaging among the services, and puts the practice at more than 40 physicians across nearly 20 specialties.
So if you're looking for a cardiologist, a pediatrician or an imaging appointment close to home, the old Lord & Taylor already has those. Burke's physical therapy is in the same building. The hospital's location page calls the site Vernon Hills Shopping Center, The center's own website brands the larger complex as Vernon Hills Village, five buildings with a mix of retail, office and medical space.
A department store is built for one tenant. Jerry Bermingham, a senior vice president at the former owner, Saks Global, explained this to the Eastchester Planning Board in June 2025, as Westfair reported:
"Our difficulty with leasing the entirety of a complex that used to be a department store is that … it all operates fine for a single tenant."
He described the fix: "It will be multiple stores along the southern front."
Splitting one large box into storefronts takes new windows, new entrances and new signs, and each one goes through town review. In Eastchester, fast-casual restaurants also need special permits. At that same hearing, attorney Bob Davis presented five new tenants for a combined 56,000 square feet. Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn Kids are permitted as-of-right at the site. CAVA and Tatte fall under the zoning code's formula fast-casual category, so they needed special permits. Equinox was the fifth.
Tatte's September 2026 filing with the town cites Planning Board Resolution 26-29, dated May 28, 2026, which granted a special use permit for Tatte along with other tenants in the building. The steps so far, in order:
Date | Step at 750 White Plains Road |
|---|---|
April 14, 2025 | Burke Rehabilitation outpatient clinic opens |
May 22 and June 26, 2025 | Public hearings on the owner's storefront changes |
July 2025 | White Plains Hospital practice begins phased opening |
October 16, 2025 | Hospital ribbon cutting for the full 70,000-square-foot center |
Early 2026 | Saks OFF 5TH closes |
May 28, 2026 | Planning Board resolution grants special use permits, including Tatte's |
September 2026 | Tatte files storefront and facade changes for the Sept. 24 Planning Board meeting |
The May 28, 2026 Planning Board agenda lists separate applications for CAVA, Tatte Bakery and Williams Sonoma, each at 750 White Plains Road. That came almost a year after the 2025 hearings where all three were first presented.
Tatte has the most detailed public file. Its September 2026 application to the town describes a 4,201-square-foot space inside the existing building. The application asks the town to approve three changes:
A halo-lit wall sign, a blade sign and window graphics are drawn in the plans for context, but they go through separate permits.
The same filing describes Tatte as a Boston-born bakery and café with more than 50 locations in the Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. markets. In the 2025 hearing, Davis described its menu as breakfast, lunch, brunch and its well-known pastries. He said neither Tatte nor CAVA would serve alcohol or seek outdoor dining. He described CAVA as a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant serving customizable bowls, pitas, dips and dressings, with nearby locations at Rye Ridge Plaza and, at the time, one coming to Cross County Center in Yonkers.
Without outdoor seating, the White Plains Road side won't get a patio scene. What changes is the building's face: the long brick wall of the old department store gets wider windows, branded doors and painted brick along the southern front.
The Equinox move was part of the 2025 plan. The Scarsdale club, which has operated for years at 800 White Plains Road, was to close there and reopen as a two-level club inside the former Lord & Taylor. Its entrance would face east, and members would park in the east lot, away from the White Plains Road side.
For now, members still go to the old address. Equinox's Scarsdale club page lists 800 White Plains Road, and the club's November 2026 group fitness schedule, effective November 1 through 30, carries the same address. The club page lists cycling, yoga, spa services, personal training and a Kids' Club.
When the move happens, it will change which lot people use. The east entrance is meant to keep gym traffic separate from shoppers and patients parking along the front.
Saks OFF 5TH, which had about 37,000 square feet in the building in 2025, closed earlier this year while its parent company was in bankruptcy, according to The Real Deal.
Soon after, the building changed hands. Westfair reported a sale of just over $83 million, based on Westchester County Clerk records. The buyer was 750 White Plains Owner LLC, and the seller was Saks Global's LT Eastchester LLC. The Real Deal identified the buyer as Sagehall, a fund managed by former Extell Development chief executive Sush Torgalkar, and said the building was 64 percent occupied at the time of the sale. The same fund bought a former Lord & Taylor in Stamford, Connecticut, from Saks the previous October.
The CBRE brokers on the deal said the buyer would complete "the repositioning and lease-up of the center." One of them, David Gavin, pointed to "further value-add through lease up of the remaining vacancy." That vacancy includes more than the old OFF 5TH floor. In 2025, the previous owner said the space left after the five new tenants would be on the third floor and in a ground-level garage that wasn't in use. Bermingham told the board White Plains Hospital might take third-floor space for administrative use, reached by a planned elevator tower on the east side.
If the hospital does take that floor, the building would lean further toward medical use, with the retail and dining tenants along the ground-floor southern front.
The Town of Eastchester posts Planning Board agendas and application files on its website. Those files are the most reliable way to follow this building. Items that would mark the next steps at 750 White Plains Road include:
The site covers about 11 acres with roughly 650 parking spaces around the building, according to the 2025 hearing.
